Simplicissimus…A Poem ….The Little House on the Hill

 Simplicissimus

In a time of woe, learn to love

In a time of sorrow, learn to remember

How it was when you were just a boy

How it was when you were young

Flee the mined fields of war

Flee the congested new rooms of your mind

Learn to follow a sunrise, a sunset

Learn to pull away, to find yourself

In a time of struggle, let go

In a time of misery, hold off

Let the occasion speak to you

Learn what it wants to teach

Remember, each day is a gift

A present, wrapped in daily giving

Learn to thank each day as it is fit

Learn to be moved, learn to sway

Edel sei der Mensch

Hilfreich und gut!

Denn das allein

Unterscheidet ihn

Von allen Wesen,

Die wir kennen.

(Goethe)

Let Man be noble

Caring and kind

Gentle and just

Humane, intelligent

For that alone sets him apart

From wolf and dog

Men without heart

--from beast and boar

Let him be tolerant

Patient, no coward

Peaceful and giving

Caring and loving

Let Man be pure

For that his greatness

Correct, mature

Peaceful and gracious

Let Man be noble

Let Man be truthful

As his own Maker

Gentle and thoughtful

Let him reflect

The sun above

That him created

Is Life and Love

Let him be honest

Kind and wise

Humane and modest

Not prey to vice

We are a special creation

Stand we must above all else

Follow the light of inspiration

Poet every man, life a free verse

A Poem

A Poem can set you free

Can give you wings

Can raise you to the light

Can make you see

Learn to hold on to a little poem, a little song

follow it wherever it takes you

in your dreams

A Poem has the quality of a prayer

That you gently recite

Say to yourself

Listen to a poem and what it sings

--A seed will in the dark

Obey the tree

THE LITTLE HOUSE ON THE HILL

The little white house on the hill

The little brick house on the left

With a tulip garden in front

As you came to the very top

With a tree next to the garage

Four big ducks on the lawn

The little white house on the hill

Our little white house of Limburg

The neighbour’s house large frame window

Its bush garden of juniper and cedar

The peacock next door screaming

Then the long street along the meadows

The windmill towards Sittard

The landscape of knoll and dale

The wooded yard and nettle underbrush

The chocolate brown brick house next door

The little house on Heiberg hill

The little row house on the left

Not too far from the castle park

Not too far from the windmill

The little house, do you remember it?

On the street with the toy store at the corner?

There you played and were merry

When still a baby, in Holland
