Late hours, into deep night
Late hours, gazing into the deep, opaqueness of the night
The sky covered by a mass of clouds in convoluted disarray
We get a glimpse of stars, intermittently glittering away,
I, stand in the dark, baffled by the wonderful sidereal light
….
And one, marveled by such a brilliance, such a serene sight
Cannot imagine the rumble, the power of the heavenly bodies
As they speed through space faster than any wind, or wing that flies
Faster than thought itself, on a neck-breaking race, speed- of -light flight
…
Those stars, like precious stones, cushioned in cotton swab like shrouds,
Throb away, as myriad of diamonds, intense, blue pinpoints of light
Hidden in the brumous tousle, of a cloud cover, twinkling bright
Ah, but if listened to, wouldn’t they be like roaring lion mouths ?!
…
Here and there, there are those flares, those bright blue flint sparks
— Blue Stars, aren’t they, the newly formed stars, and Quasars?
— Many of pale or yellowish tint, aren’t they like our sun, middle aged stars?
— Others of reddish tinge, super giant stars… all borne from gluons and quarks
……
And one, marveled by such a brilliance, such a serene scope
Cannot imagine the rumble, the power of the heavenly bodies
As they speed through space faster than any wind, or thought that flies
Aren’t they spiraling infernos, fireballs, on a neck-breaking gallop??
Slow motion moments, here, we marvel at their sidereal beauty and power
When night skies, much like burning tumble weed, as in Van Gogh’s Night Sky
Show us, World upon Worlds, whirling and tumbling, falling apart?
Why we, as Moses at Mount Sinai, before the burning bush, kneel down and cower?
….
